Nominations for General Board Due Feb. 15

There are some changes coming to how the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) operates, particularly as related to the General Assembly and the General Board. One proposed change is to broaden the nomination process for the General Board. Any Disciple can nominate delegates to serve on the General Board or nominate someone to serve on the Moderator Team to offer leadership during the 2025-2028 triennium.  Learn more about the roles, responsibilities, process, and access forms here. Nominations for General Board members under these proposed changes are being accepted now through February 15, 2025.

These proposed changes were approved at the 2023 General Assembly in Louisville, KY. You can read about the changes in GA-2343, “Amendments to the Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)” here. The goal is to create ways for congregations to be more connected to one another and the General Board, and to have more of a voice in the present and future of the church. Other proposed changes include the following:

  • The General Assembly will meet in person (as well as online) every three years; in the other two years, there will be online-only meeting of the General Assembly.

  • Every congregation will be invited to appoint three representatives to serve three-year terms not only to vote on resolutions, but to engage in dialogue, discernment, and prayer. The representatives will be staggered, with one representative being new each year.

  • The General Board currently consists of 117 members, serving 3-year terms, meeting annually and nominated by Regional Ministers or General Ministries. Under the proposed changes, the General Board will be a working board of 94 members, meeting several times a year, and serving 6-year terms in the areas of mission, finance, and governance, and nominated by any Disciple. This educational pamphlet explains these changes.
