Curriculum & Studies
A new (and free) 6- or 7-week study from Disciples Youth (part of Disciples Home Missions) “Social Emotional Learning and Faith Formation” could be just the thing to offer your students this Lent. The goal is to empower youth to engage deeply with their spirituality while developing the emotional and social skills they need for life’s transitions. The curriculum offers ways to express faith that are inclusive, compassionate, and just. Download the study here.
Disciples Home Missions (DHM) includes Christian Education and Faith Formation resources such as “Weightlifters: 2025 Laity Readiness Resource,” which features downloadable curricula as well as webinar recordings. Check out other Christian education resources from DHM in an updated and searchable database here.
Lenten Worship Resources
Global Ministries, the global outreach of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ, has compiled a variety of Lent and Easter resources. Noteworthy are two short videos suitable for use in worship as a prelude, postlude, communion meditation, or call to worship. Palms from Around the World is a compilation of photos of palms and people across the globe, idea for Palm Sunday. Crosses of Many Cultures is a meditative video exploring how each culture brings their own understanding to the symbol of the cross.
A Lenten Prayer is an adaptation from the poem written by William Arthur Ward (1921-1984).
re:Worship is a blog of scripturally based resources for worship leaders and planners compiled by Christine Longhurst, Assistant Professor of Worship and Music, Canadian Mennonite University. Find Lent resources here.
As you think ahead to Palm Sunday, consider ordering Fair Trade palms from ecopalms.org as a way to promote environmental and social justice through your congregation’s palm-purchasing decisions. By purchasing palms through this organization, your church will help palm harvesters in Latin America earn a better income that goes directly back to the community, while at the same time, encourage sustainable harvesting.
