There's a new program afoot in Georgia to encourage and help
youth to consider the ministry as a vocation. The
Vocation and Ministry committee of the Christian College of Georgia Board meets periodically to continue and expand their plans for this exciting program.
Chaired by Landa Harris Simmons this committee consists of Bob Harris, Michael
Weeks, Emily Smith, and Patti Clark.
All trends point to an increasing shortage of clergy in the
coming years. Centerpiece of this pioneering program to help solve this
problem is the mailing of creative and inspiring cards to youth around the
state. Cards are being sent at several key times during the year. These
cards deliver thought provoking messages encouraging the "internet
generation" to visit a web site at www.gadisciples.org/vocation
to learn more about careers in ministry.
The web site contains stories and pictures from disciple
clergy engaged in many forms of ministry from missionary work to military
chaplains. Each minister tells his or her "story." Some are
stories describing when and how they felt called, some are stories from their
current ministry, all make interesting reading. The site also contains
links and other resources to guide and direct youth in their decisions about
educational and career choices.
In addition to the web site, the committee plans
skits and games at the Regional Youth Assemblies.
