East Central Men's District Rally
Twenty
spiritually fed men gathered Saturday, September 29th at Sandersville
Christian Church.
The Rally opened with a musical prelude played by Judy
Waller of Sandersville, who played for all our musical needs. John
Anderson, President of the Georgia Region Men's Commission then opened
with prayer. John then gave an explanation of the Georgia Men's
Commission, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Layman of the Year
Award with the introduction of two past winners - Bill Fowler of Central
Christian and Ray Doster of Sandersville.
A discussion was held regarding the Men's works fund
and the projects it can be used to support. The spring retreat at
Christmount, set for April 4-6, 2008 was announced and the Rev. David
Grandgeorge of Guyton Christian Church, who will be one of the program
leaders was introduced.
Archie Jenkins, from Guyton Christian Church, who is
the newest member of the General Conference of Disciple Men Executive
Committee, gave a discussion on Sessions 2008 to be held from July 17th
through the 20th in Oklahoma City. Archie also discussed the
"Pancake Fund."
The Men joined in song with "I Will Enter His Gates",
"Rise up, O Men of God" and "Here I am Lord." Len Horst, who
performed a Christian Country Ballad and "Amazing Grace", provided the
special music.
Milton
Summerall delivered the word from 1 Kings 18:20-24. His sermon
title was "Who really has the power?" This is the story of Elijah
and the 450 prophets of Baal. Elijah wishes to meet with King Ahab
in order to challenge the prophets of Baal to a contest as to whose God
has the power. Elijah also chastises the people of Israel because
of their lack of faith. As you recall in verse 21, the
Israelites did not answer Elijah's questions, which brought us to the
point of today's world.
We are, on every front, assaulted to be more accepting
of other religions and beliefs, many times to the detriment of our being
able to worship the one, true and living God as we should. We give
in to peer pressure or to the thought that we must always be
"politically correct." We dare not say or do anything in a
religious manner that will offend another person or their belief.
Well, it's way past time that we started to stand up for our belief.
We do in fact serve one, true and living God, as we should begin to let
our actions reflect our belief.
Milton told the story of the Marine guard at
Guantanamo Bay who was accused of desecrating a Moslem holy book by
taking it away from a prisoner who would not do as he was told.
The guard supposedly threw the book on the ground. The media
immediately picked up on the story and it made many headlines including
many news stations on television. There was even talk of bringing
this guard up on charges. Understand this Milton said: "I do not
care if he threw that persons "holy book" on the ground. When the
world begins to respect the Holy Bible as it should be, then I will have
more concern for other beliefs and books."
It is time we as Christians begin taking a stand for
Jesus and let the world know how we feel, Milton continued. I
believe there is some scripture that goes (Paraphrasing), "He who denies
me before others, the same will I deny before the Father who is in
Heaven." That should say enough right there Milton said. We
must once again begin to bring "Family values" into our lifestyle;
instead of the permissiveness that is so rampant in our society today,
particularly amongst the young generation. If we as Christians
don't teach our children, others will. Do we really want that to
be the case. How do we know what they will teach?
The men collected an offering for the Men's Work Fund
of $143.00. A friendship circle was formed and John Anderson led
the men in prayer. The men then had a wonderful lunch of ham and
chicken and other great food provided by Sandersville Christian Church. |
