  • White House Taps Georgia Disciple Pastor for Fellowships Commission
    Cynthia L. Hale, senior pastor of Ray of Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Decatur Ga., has been appointed to the President's Commission on White House Fellowships.

  • Nominees Needed - The Regional Board is looking to set up a volunteer audit committee.  Disciples with financial skills are needed.

  • Our special thanks to the following congregations who through May this year had increased their support of Disciple related missions compared to last year.

  • First Christian Church Savannah - Congratulates Rev. Gary D. Cubbedge on his graduation from the Newburgh Theological Seminary and College of the Bible.

  • The Disciples on Campus program of the Christian College of Georgia in Athens needs your help!!
    They need to know the names of students from each congregation who are heading off to college in the Fall.  Whether they are going to Athens or to some other city, our campus ministry appreciates knowing where our students are so that we can offer the best support possible to them during their college experience.  Send names, addresses, and the college or university the student will attend to:

  • Georgia Disciples Minister Chosen For Young Pastors Leadership Program
    Taft Quincey Heatley, executive pastor at Ray of Hope Christian Church in Decatur, Ga. has been named to a new leadership program for young pastors.  Heatley is a member of the 2009 Project Rising Sun leadership academy, a two-year program to develop leaders among Hispanic, African American and other young pastors of color.
    Project Rising Sun was launched by Stephen Lewis, national director of the Fund for Theological Education's Calling Congregations. Heatley and other participants in the project will attend retreats focusing on personal and professional, congregational and community development. The group held its first meeting on April 26 in Morgantown, N.C. Both Calling Congregations and Project Rising Sun are funded by the Lilly Endowment.

  • Regional Board Votes to Set New Direction - At the May 9th meeting, the regional board took several actions which begin to set a new direction for the region.  Also read Regional Minister Ray Miles Pastoral Letter about these changes.

  • Regional Assembly 2009 - Accommodations Announced.  Hotel and campground recommendations are available for the Regional Assembly to be held November, 6-7, 2009 at Cherry Log Christian Church.

  • The HELM Leadership Fellows Program, which supports undergraduate students who have demonstrated leadership skills and who want to help lead transformative change in the church and the world, has added seven new students for the 2009-2010 academic year.
    HELM Leadership Fellows are selected based on their leadership potential, church participation, and academic promise. One of the seven new Leadership Fellows for the upcoming academic year include Georgia's own Henry Brewer-Calvert of Atlanta, is the son of James and Betty Brewer-Calvert, a member of First Christian Church, Decatur, Ga., and will be a student at Lynchburg College.
