Position Title: Regional Director of New Church and Church Development (NCCD)

Compensation: Annual stipend of $12,000/1000 monthly compensation for 15 hours a week. Expenses reimbursed w/approval up to $3,000

Reports to:  Regional Minister

The position of Director of New Church and Church Development of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Georgia has been created to strengthen the mission imperative to establish new congregations in the Georgia Region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and ownership for the New Church and Church Development Commission.
  2. Develop a ministry of presence with the new churches (congregations) in Georgia, the New Church Commission and the Regional Church.
  3. Provide written reports to the New Church Commission, the Regional Board and the Regional Assembly, and attend these meetings.
  4. Promote and interpret the Region’s annual Special Day Pentecost Offering.
  5. Maintain a healthy and working relationship with the General Church’s New Church organizations, and serve as a liaison between the Regional and General Church in New Church endeavors.
  6. Guide and counsel new churches in complying with state and federal regulations governing non-profit organizations and corporations.
  7. Maintain a level of comfort and knowledge of multi-cultural diversity across the Region’s new churches, and interpret it at Regional events as appropriate.
  8. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of new media, social networking and other technological advances while also utilizing traditional means of networking and communication.
  9. Oversee the disbursement of New Church funds in consultation with both the Regional Minister and the New Church Commission.
  10. Strategize to guide the Regional Church in meeting a goal of planting or welcoming by affiliation a minimum of one new church per year within the Region.
  11. Assist and guide “In Formation” congregations toward becoming “Recognized” DOC congregations.
  12. Give guidance to small, struggling Recognized congregations that may have the characteristics of a new church but are needing attention in church development.
  13. Give guidance and support to initiatives designed to assist congregational effectiveness across the region.
  14. Give guidance to Recognized churches that due to funding covenants do not have access to New Church funds, but may benefit from Reconciliation funds.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Director must be an active member of a congregation of the Christian Church in Georgia.
  • Director must exemplify gifts, skills, and passion commensurate to job responsibility (leadership, written and verbal communication skills, energy, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, group dynamics, spiritual maturity, technological acumen, and knowledge of contemporary church growth dynamics).
  • Director is a part-time Regional Staff position, which will include a Background Check, having or getting Boundary Training, Reconciliation/Anti-Racism training and having or getting a Disciples History and Polity course.
  • If not ordained, Director will pursue Commissioned Minister status and acquire Standing with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
  • Director will be accountable to Regional Minister and reports to the Regional Board.
  • Director will not be a current member or minister of a new church plant.
  • Director recognizes that matters relating to clergy issues are handled by the Regional Minister, including internal church conflicts.
  • Director recognizes that the Regional Commission on New Church (with Regional Board approval) works with church credentials and the Regional Commission on Ministry works with clergy credentials and conduct.
