NEW SENIOR MINISTER AT NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
As
of August 4, 2008, New Hope welcomed as their Senior Minister the Rev.
James E. Shelton. Born in Austell, GA, Rev. Shelton is married to
Ellie, a talented music teacher, and they have a son, Grady, who is 4
years old. James is a graduate of Atlanta Christian College, with a
Bachelor of Science Degree, with an emphasis in music ministry and a
minor in Biblical Studies. He also has a Master of Arts Degree in New
Testament, with emphasis in preaching, from Johnson Bible College. He
has completed 3 years of study toward his Master of Divinity Degree from
McAfee School of Theology and will continue his studies in the fall. He
was ordained in 2002 and has been engaged in ministry since. His most
recent position was as Minister of Worship at Maple View Church of
Christ, Bluefield, VA. New Hope is so pleased to have this man of God
coming to lead their ministries and looking forward to great things in
the future!
NEW HOPE PARSONAGE USED AS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
New Hope has a contract with Family Promises of
Gwinnett to use their parsonage as transitional housing for those
needing that service. Family Promises is a non-profit, interfaith group
that assists homeless families with shelter, meals and other support,
such as daycare. New Hope is proud to be associated with this ministry.
Our special mission project for July is collecting
school supplies and book bags for children through 3rd grade that are in
need of help. The start of the school year is so exciting for children,
and we want to be sure they all have the chance to get off to a good
start.
CHILDREN & YOUTH SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Our Youth had an amazing Mission Trip to Iowa
recently, where they assisted a rural church with their VBS. This same
group came and helped New Hope with their VBS. This has become a
routine exchange between these two churches, and our young people are
gaining so much through this involvement.
Our Summer Puppet & Movement Camp was again a
success! Everyone had a blast! This year the participants made their
own puppets, which turned out to be quite a chore. But they learned a
lot about what it means to love the Lord and to be busy in His work. On
Friday night the group performed for parents and friends.
