Required Training for the Prevention of Clergy Misconduct
The policy and procedures document on Clergy Sexual Misconduct passed at the
2011 Regional Assembly requires all clergy in the Christian Church in Georgia to
register and complete Healthy Boundaries Training every five years. Inactive
Retired Ministers are exempt.
Clergy with standing in Georgia should receive information from the Regional
office notifying them of the year they are required to take Boundaries training
in order to retain their ministerial standing. If you did not receive this
information please contact the regional office at (478) 743-8649 or email
jennifer@gadisciples.org.
During 2019, we will continue to collaborate with the Southeast Conference of
the United Church of Christ (SECUCC) to offer the workshop to both Disciples ministers
in Georgia and UCC ministers in the Southeast Conference. Because of this collaboration
there will be two workshop options at five different times and locations during
2019. The two workshops are:
- Healthy Boundaries 101: Fundamentals is a foundational
workshop in healthy boundaries with an emphasis on power and vulnerability and
discussions on transference, friendships, dating, and self-care.
- Healthy Boundaries 201: Beyond Basics and Into the Internet
is an advanced discussion of healthy boundaries for clergy and church leaders,
designed for those who have completed Healthy Boundaries 101, and emphasizing
internet and social media boundaries. This workshop builds on the basics and
applies boundaries principles to specific situations with particular emphasis
on internet technology and social media. There is a prerequisite of Healthy
Boundaries 101 or similar foundation workshop.
