“Receiving the Day” is the theme of the third annual Georgia Disciples of Christ Clergy Women’s Retreat scheduled at Camp Christian, August 22-23. The title is taken from Dorothy Bass’ book, Receiving the Day: Christian Practices for Opening the Gift of Time. Take a day – 24 hours – to deepen your relationship with clergy women sisters and with God.

Time is a big issue for most of us. Depending on where we are in life, we either feel we have too little or too much. In truth, we each have the same number of hours in a day; the question is how we use it and how we view it. How we look at time and its use affects our attitudes, our self-esteem, our relationships, and our physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Does this conversation sound familiar? A friend or relative calls and casually inquires, “What are you doing today?” If it is a rare moment when you are actually just “being” and not “doing” anything which society calls constructive, you are apt to get this reply: “Well, lucky you!” with no small amount of sarcasm in his/her voice. Or you might hear, “Must be nice! I wish I had that luxury.” Do we take time for resting in God and do we model that for others?

How do we view time? What principles and approaches shape our lives? How do we open the gift of time in a way that is healthy and joyful? Each of us yearns for a life that is whole and holy. Through discussion, fun learning activities, labyrinth walking, journaling, prayer, meditation, and music, we will open the gift of time.

Reading the book Receiving the Day would be beneficial but is not required for participation. You may order through the Amazon bookstore; your purchase benefits Camp Christian.

The 24-hour time of sharing, worship, and fellowship begins Friday afternoon, August 22nd at 4:00, with a relaxed time at the pool before dinner. The cost for housing, food, and registration is $50.00 for a shared room and $58.50 for a single (as available).
